If you have ever known a teacher that has gone over and beyond their call of duty as an educator; who not only leads the classroom, but leads the school in making important changes to better the classroom environment; you have met a teacherpreneur.
Since today is Teacher Appreciation Day, we wanted to introduce you to who these teacherpreneurs really are and how they can (and do) make a positive impact on your schools. Let’s dive in!
What Is a Teacherpreneur?
A person who is a teacher and an entrepreneur in education. Someone who is a classroom expert devoting time to both teaching students and leading innovations in practice or policy which benefits students throughout their schools, districts, and beyond.
What Benefits Do Teacherpreneurs Bring to a School or District?
It is a common misconception that a teacherpreneur must leave their students in order to work with policymakers to make the changes needed for their schools and districts. In truth, there are many benefits to having a teacherpreneur at your school…
- They can reach a larger community of students.
Not only are they spending a few day a week teaching, but they work endlessly to influence teachers, leading and advising other educators, and making change happen within their education communities.
- They can keep students engaged.
While most schools are concerned about creating a powerful and smart community for students, having teachers intellectually challenged will uphold a thirst for knowledge to inspire students, as well.
- They can share their experiences with other teachers.
Sending a few motivated teachers to professional development programs, and asking them to share their newly attained knowledge with other teachers will help a school as a whole. Teacherpreneurs can build a stronger school community, and align standards and procedures to also benefit the students across subjects, grades, or a school.
- They can bring better education technology products to schools.
Who knows what the students need to succeed in the classroom better than their teachers? Not only would teacherpreneurs know what is needed, but they can help ensure the education technology products’ implementation. By being a great influence and building a community with other teachers at the school, teacherpreneurs can set an example of using these products and making the most of the investment by the school or district.
Why Do We Need Teacherpreneurs?
Keeping an entrepreneurial spirit in our schools is important for morale, community, and progress. It will keep teachers immersed in the educational environment, keep them empowered, and essentially help integrate any and all school initiatives.

How Can You Find Teacherpreneurs?
If you want teacherpreneurs in your school, try to set goals and make promises to encourage entrepreneurship in education. Give your teachers the resources to learn, adapt, and influence the policies in your schools and districts. While principals and district leaders will have the final word, allowing teachers to participate will help schools and districts quickly reach goals, and inevitably benefit all students involved.
Need somewhere to start? Thank your teachers for all of the hard work they have put in this year! It is Teacher Appreciation Week, so there is no time like the present to celebrate them with posters, stickers, and more.
